A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of listening to the following presentation as part of the World Conference on Disaster Management. Kathryn is a great speaker and this was a very interesting keynote on communications - if you get chance please register and watch the video :-)

Background: On July 6 2005 Britain celebrated the return of the Olympics with the announcement that the 2012 Games would be staged there.

Within 24 hours the Communications challenges had been transformed, along with those of security, as the 7/7 terror bombs brought carnage to the capital with deadly explosions on underground trains and a packed bus.

These brought home to the authorities how the modern media – and social media – now cover Crisis.

As Canada, and Toronto, head for the 17th Pan American Games in 2015, Kathryn Holloway of Press Alert – the UK’s market- leading specialist in Crisis Communications advice and Media Training – explains the issues which faced Britain’s leaders and the organisers of the event in the run-up to London 2012: from the lofty ideals, seeking like Toronto, to stage the most eco-friendly Games ever held and to create a lasting architectural and sporting legacy for coming generations, to the rows over funding and value for money, political embarrassments for the Mayor and Government and last-minute hitches over staffing and security which threatened to de-rail the event and taint the “legacy” before it began.

As the stories continue to break, Kathryn - who has advised HM Government Ministers, blue light and military leaders as well as the boards of some of the largest companies comprising UK plc - explains the challenges now facing Toronto’s mayor, its Government and the event organisers.
